Double Hits in World Boss (With Video)

(Posted by Eliatan of the DolyGames Team)

Hey you guys, I get asked about how to do double hits in World Boss a lot, so I thought I'd try to lay it out here in the blog. I have some video of me doing them as well.

This can be done with your class-based skills or in sylph mode, and using this trick can get you double hits every other turn:
  1. Pick a skill
  2. Click AFK
  3. Let AFK mode choose your next attack
  4. As the AFK-selected skill is casting, choose your next attack or rune. Now your skills should be blinking.
  5. Continue to choose your next skill or rune, one or two turns ahead of what your toon is casting at the moment.
  6. If your skills stop blinking and you cannot queue future skill choices, start back at (1)
On the turns that you successfully double hit, usually you'll see that you attack immediately after the World Boss hits you, not your troops. So it will look something like:
  1. World Boss attacks you
  2. You attack World Boss
  3. Your troops attack World Boss
  4. You attack World Boss
So these are the basic ideas on how to do this, but there's definitely a learning curve to figuring out the timing (I think I was on the slow end of that curve...), so practice practice practice!

Big thanks to my buddy and guildy, arty, for putting up with me while I was learning how to do this.

Spin Blessing Wheel While in an Instance

(Posted by Eliatan)

Hey you guys, if you're anything like me, you're a bit of dunce (T_T) and regularly forget to spin the Academy blessing wheel. Luckily, my buddy artemes (tyty<3) pointed out that if you forget to spin and have already entered a dungeon, it's possible to do so through the Daily Guide.

The Daily Guide button is the red flag icon in the top right menu. If you haven't spun yet, you'll be able to open the wheel from the devotion task list. Make sure you spin completely before closing the wheel, because once you spin enough to get devotion, you won't be able to open it from this menu again.

Hope this helps :) Planning on a series of posts on sylphs soon(-ish)! Please gimme a holler in the comments if there's anything you'd be interested in me posting about, or that you think would be helpful to have illustrated clearly on the blog!

A Couple Notes on the Tormented Necropolis

(Posted by Eliatan)

Hey you guys, a very common question I’ve been asked is “Am I strong enough to beat level 5/10 of Necropolis? I've saved up [insert number > 3] crypt keys so I can give it a shot.”

The things I mention here are probably old news to more experienced players, but I think even if just for the sake of documentation, it might be good to have this post for beginner-intermediate players and the people who advise them.

The Tormented Necropolis is a very challenging series of 30 bosses, which becomes available once you defeat level 100 of Catacombs. The Crypt Shop says you need to complete levels 5 and 10 of the “underground labrynth” (aka Necropolis ... and it should be spelled "labyrinth") to be able to purchase the level 60 and 70 items, respectively.

Cosmos already has at least one video and blog post about fighting the monsters in Necropolis, so I'm not going to get into combat strategy here, but I do have a few other things I wanted to share on this topic. (If combat strategy is something you guys would be interested in, please drop me a comment, and I'll try to figure something out in the future)

A note on the wording in the shop -- even though it says you need to complete levels 5 and 10, you actually only have to reach these levels in order to open up the items in the shop. If this is a bug, it's a pretty fortunate one; beating the x5 levels (5, 10, 15, etc.) are very big hurdles.

Especially since sylphs came into play, I don't really know what the stat requirements are for each level. So I think the easiest answer to "Am I strong enough?" is "Give it a go!"

With only the initial payment of 3 crypt keys, you can get one free attempt every day, for as long as you want. All you have to do is enter Necropolis and get as far as you can. After you die, revive and then immediately exit. Afterward, your screen should look something like this:

Each day you can click "Continue," try to beat whichever level you've been stuck on, and then after you die, revive and exit. You get exactly one free revive per day, if you attack one of the bosses again and lose, you'll need to pay 25 balens for every successive revive.
Edit: a previous version of the post said that after the first 25 balens are paid, you can revive as many time as you want for that entry. I must've mixed something up, because I just tried on an alt and it does deduct with each revive. Sorry about that, and thank you everyone for the feedback!

The most important part about doing Necropolis is opening up items in the Crypt shop. The other rewards from this event are very mediocre considering the key cost (a lot of EXP, but no crypt tokens and stingy gems). I used the same set of 3 keys for Necropolis for a few months, until I passed level 14, and even after that I regret not waiting to at least pass level 15 (T_T) before resetting.

So my recommendation is to just have some fun! Start Necropolis whenever you want, and don't waste your crypt keys resetting it until you've completed the much higher levels.

Mailbox Hoarding!

(Posted by Eliatan -- 2013 graduate of the COSMOS School of Hoarding)

Hey you guys, I was getting a little low on bag space after the recent unlimited mount whip event, so I decided to take the opportunity to talk about using your mailbox to store items.

Using the game mailbox is a great way to save some backup gold from world boss rewards. As long as you don't click on them, mail messages do not expire for 30 days (drops to 3 days once you view the contents).

This gold comes in handy so that you can purchase things like talents, enchantments, and gem conversions on demand. I have a guildie who saved up so many pages of world boss prizes that some were down to only 1 day left on the expiration ... though that's a bit extreme ...

Space has been a little tight trying to save up soul crystals and things for all the events, so what I did was put all the items I wanted to go to mailbox into my vault:

Then I got kicked from my guild (and returned ^^ lol):

And this is what I have afterward!

A few words of caution:
  • Remember to spend all your contribution before asking to be kicked from your guild, or you'll lose whatever you had.
  • *Knock on wood* I've never lost mailbox messages, but I've seen a couple people on the forums say they have. I wouldn't risk storing any items so precious that losing them to cyber space will setback your toon a lot (either a lot of time or a lot of money).
Hope this helps anyone crunched for space! Opening up rows in the bags is quite expensive after the change from vouchers to bound balens, so I think this is a valid option for players who missed that opportunity.

Simple Ways to Get Extra Boxes During Gift Events

(Posted by Cosmos on behalf of Elitan)

Hey you guys, Eliatan here. My main toon is a mage on Kabam 18, and after some friendly encouragement from Cosmos, I’m getting my Wartune blogging feet wet with a post about some simple ways to get extra boxes during gift events like the following:

(from the R2games Wartune forums)
New Year's Gift - Broken Box
Duration: 1/10 - 1/12 & 1/17 - 1/19 (Server Time)
Description: There must be some mysterious gifts hidden in this Broken Box. You can find them in Multiplayer Dungeons, Solo Campaigns, and Catacombs! Open it to obtain one of the following:

  • Lost Gift x1
  • 10,000 Gold
  • 10,000 Daru
  • 2,000 Kyanite
  • Insignia x5
  • Mahra x1

These types of events are nice -- with a little planning, you can get 30+ extra boxes each period, and who doesn't love more stuff? :)

Just to be clear, when I say “extra boxes,” I mean ones that you wouldn't get if you only did the usual one daily Catacombs, 100-160 stamina, and one multiplayer dungeon.

The next time this event begins is on 1/17, so I’m going to explain everything relative to that start date, but it’s always good to keep up with the forum announcements to know when this type of thing is coming.

Since this event is based on drops from dungeon mobs, the most low maintenance thing you can do is to enter the Forgotten Catacombs the day before (1/16 in this case), and then leave before attacking anything. Equivalently, you can start the blitz and then cancel it. Once you do this, your Catacombs page should like this:

You will not lose the next day’s attempt by doing this. Once the event starts, you can use the 1/16 attempt, and the screen will say “Today’s Attempts: 1/1”.

Here are some of the results Cosmos and I got from Catacombs during this event:

As you can see, even without a crypt key, you can get 18 extra boxes by pushing your Catacombs attempt to the next day, and with a crypt key, an extra 22-36.  I think the crypt key attempt with only 22 is just rotten luck on Cosmos’s part, because I haven’t seen anything lower than 30 boxes myself.

Anything about Catacombs also applies to Tormented Necropolis, if you’re willing to use that many crypt keys. I blitzed levels 1 to 18 once during the event just to show you guys, but for most people the 3 crypt keys a day (plus one for Catacombs = 4!) isn't an option.

Got 4 of the boxes from this, but more exciting are the two level 4 gems ^^ (very rare)!

Another low effort “blitz push” to the event start day, is to save 100 stamina on 1/16, so that after reset on 1/17, you have 200 stamina + 60 from altar.  Here are some 100 stamina blitz results during the event:

The return is much lower from solo campaigns than from Catacombs, and it probably differs a little depending on which campaign you use. But you’re still getting 1-2 boxes per 20 stamina. Who knows, they could all have mahra in them :P

For the more dedicated souls out there, you can also take advantage of the 5 hour window between when events begin (00:00) and server reset occurs (5:00). You can save 100 stamina on 1/15, then after server reset on 1/16 you’ll have a total of 200. Once the event starts at 00:00 1/17, you can blitz 200, and then get your 60 from altar for that day.

Likewise for Catacombs, you can enter and leave it on 1/15, then blitz once after 00:00 1/17 and either blitz again or enter/leave for your 1/16 attempt.

The tough part about this is staying on top of your blitzing times. You only have a few hours to do what you want, because all of this needs to be done before the reset at 5:00.  You can also wait to use your 1/16 MPD attempt during this period, but getting a group at these hours a bit of a pain, and it only drops a couple boxes anyway.

I particularly like doing the saving stamina technique when a 100% EXP bonus event is coming up (doesn't apply to Catacombs or Necropolis), but the hours are a bit difficult for me (EST player on WST server). If the hours work out conveniently for you, I highly recommend it.

Below is a little agenda I made for the main things I've discussed. Low effort refers to things that can be done without having to worry about being on to play between 00:00 and 5:00 1/17.

This turned out way longer than I thought it would! Hope this helps everyone out, and please share anything you do to take advantage of events in the comments :)
